This is quite brilliant. Some of these images are so well drawn I found myself again and again forgetting that this was written by someone I know. When a work is able to transport you as this does, you think of it coming from far far away rather than having its genesis so near by. Where would such a high standard have been established? This work does seen to belong to a place and to a people with a highly established literature. We do neglect to acknowledge that we do have quite an established literary tradition. We might fail to acknowledge this because that tradition is rooted more in the oral than in the scribal. This story, to reiterate, does seem broken off from a large, established body of such works. This is certainly an author to watch and to expect wonderful things from. I'll be watching and I'll be waiting.

This is a delightful but dark story. Cami is an interesting blend of the all knowing yet unspoiled. The narrator is more complex. I am quite looking forward to reading Christi's other works on this site.

Ms. Cartwright’s vivid imagery made me feel an emotional connection to the characters a mere few paragraphs into the story. I look forward to reading more from her....

Christi Cartwright's language transports me to Cat Island to the rain soaked river of milk, the ginger trail of the sun, and to Cami whose bones under the skin kiss all the right places. Through the protagonist Christi takes me into the deep bond of young feminine friendship with all its beauty and all its precariousness. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Cartwright's writings.

I love this story. Christi's Cartwright's writing always makes me feel the beauty of sadness and longing.
