I bring Anne Bonny up to the contemporary time because I explore the idea of gender roles and identities. and the way that desire motivates us within these roles and identities. So I guess desire and language are the two overarching themes in the piece. I’ve really always been interested in, like Marguerite Duras, between that sort of line between destruction and desire and how often we cross it and that was like the modern narrative as well.
